Couples Therapy Intensives

More time. More depth. A chance to work on the relationship itself, not just the conflict of the week.

Traditional couples therapy can be incredibly valuable, but sometimes 50 minutes simply isn't enough. By the time a couple settles in, explains what happened, and begins to understand the conflict, the session is over. Important conversations get interrupted, deeper patterns remain unexplored, and couples can find themselves returning week after week to the same argument in different forms.

Couples Therapy Intensives offer a different approach.

Rather than meeting for a brief session every week indefinitely, intensives provide dedicated time to slow down, step out of the day-to-day rhythm of the relationship, and focus more deeply on the patterns that keep you stuck.

Using an attachment-based and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach, we will look beneath the surface of recurring conflicts to understand what is happening emotionally between you: What are you each longing for? What feels threatening or unavailable? How do you protect yourselves when you feel hurt, rejected, unseen, or disconnected? And how can you begin responding to one another differently?

What we can work on

Intensives are designed for couples who want focused support around issues such as:

  • Recurring arguments or communication breakdowns

  • Feeling stuck in the same conflict cycle

  • Difficulty expressing needs or emotions

  • Pursue/withdraw or anxious/avoidant patterns

  • Loss of connection, intimacy, or affection

  • Trust and relational injuries

  • Infidelity or breaches of trust

  • Major transitions or decisions in the relationship

  • Learning how to have difficult conversations without becoming defensive or shutting down

  • Developing a shared emotional language and greater understanding of one another

The goal isn't simply to resolve one particular disagreement. It's to help you understand the pattern you're caught in and begin developing the skills and emotional flexibility to interrupt it.

What an Intensive Looks Like

Longer sessions give us something that traditional couples therapy often can't: time.

We can slow down instead of rushing toward a solution. We can identify the cycle as it happens in the room, pause when emotions rise, and practice putting feelings, needs, and fears into words. We can move from "This is what my partner did" toward "This is what happens inside me when I feel disconnected from you."

You will learn and practice tools for:

  • Recognizing your relationship's recurring cycle

  • Identifying the emotions and attachment needs underneath conflict

  • Communicating vulnerably rather than defensively

  • Listening for the emotion underneath your partner's words

  • Responding to one another's bids for connection

  • De-escalating conflict and staying emotionally present

  • Creating new patterns of connection and repair

Because we have more time, we don't have to stop just as the important conversation is beginning.

Choose the Format That Fits Your Relationship

Intensives can be tailored to your goals, availability, and how much support you are looking for.

3-Hour Intensive | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
A focused opportunity to identify your cycle, explore the emotional patterns underneath it, and begin practicing new ways of communicating and responding.

One-Day Intensive | 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
More time to go deeper into your relationship dynamic, work through difficult material, and build practical tools you can continue using together.

Two-Day Intensive
An immersive experience for couples who want to devote substantial time to understanding their relationship, working through entrenched patterns, and practicing new ways of relating to one another.

The structure and focus of each intensive will be tailored to the couple's specific needs and goals. An initial consultation is required to determine whether an intensive format is appropriate and which format would be the best fit.

Who Are Intensives For?

Couples don't have to be in crisis to benefit from intensive work. You may simply feel like you've been having the same conversation for months, or that you understand what you're supposed to do differently but can't seem to make the change stick.

Intensives can be especially helpful for couples who:

  • Don't want to commit to open-ended weekly therapy

  • Want a concentrated experience rather than ongoing treatment

  • Have limited availability for weekly sessions

  • Want to learn and practice relationship tools together

  • Feel that 50-minute sessions aren't giving them enough time

  • Are preparing for or navigating a major relationship transition

  • Want to intentionally invest in strengthening their relationship

You don't have to wait until your relationship is in crisis to work on it.

An intensive creates intentional space to pause, understand what is happening between you, and practice relating to one another in a new way.

Ready to Get Started?

If you're wondering whether a Couples Therapy Intensive might be right for you, schedule a consultation to talk about what you're experiencing, what you'd like to change, and which format would best support your relationship.

The goal isn't to teach you how to never fight. It's to help you understand what happens between you when you do and give you a different way forward.
